Kilicdaroglu Claims Erdogan is Concealing the True State of the Economy

  • Turkey’s main opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu has accused President Erdogan’s government of covering up the true state of the economy and the country’s finances in an interview with Bloomberg. “The numbers in Turkey are not transparent, they are not accurate,” he said. “We do not have enough information on our obligations, commitments, or income and expenditure.” Kilicdaroglu said he believes appointing the right people to economic institutions including the central bank, the Treasury and regulators will bring Turkey the financial fix it needs.
  • Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Bilgin said they’ll made an amendment in minimum wages in July, Ekonomi report. “My approach there is that we need to set a minimum wage equivalent to around $500,” he said.
  • President Erdogan and opposition leaders will speak in various election rallies throughout the afternoon. Looking ahead, industrial production data (Est: +2.7% y/y; Prior -6.0%) is on the docket tomorrow. Current account balance figures cross on Thursday (Est: -$5.30bln; Prior: -$8.78bln).
