Kinder Morgan Sees Mexico Driving Nat Gas Demand Higher: Bloomberg

  • CEO Kim Dang said in a 4Q earnings call Wednesday, “we continue to see additional growth opportunities in natural gas between LNG, exports to Mexico power and industrial growth.”
  • KM expects natural gas demand to rise by around 28 bcf/d between now and 2030. That is above the 25 bcf/d forecast made in the 3Q call.
  • Nat gas exports to Mexico will rise by 3 bcf/d by 2030, according to the quarterly presentation. Mexico currently imports around 6.5 bcf/d from the US and KM has 50% of that. Mexico relies on US imports for around 70% of its Nat gas consumption.
  • Imports reached a record high as CFE opened new combined-cycle gas plants and Nat gas production from Pemex plummeted. Proposed LNG export projects will also increase demand for US gas if they are approved.
