Kremlin: Biden Genocide Allegation An 'Unacceptable Distortion'

Comments from Kremlin spox Dmitri Peskov hitting wires. Says that comments made by US President Joe Biden yesterday saying Russia was comitting a genocide in Ukraine are an 'unacceptable distortion'.

  • Biden stated on 12 April when asked if he stands by genocide comment that, “Yes, I called it genocide because it’s become clearer and clearer that Putin is just trying to wipe out the idea of even being Ukrainian.
  • Says that it 'categorically disagrees' with Biden's description of what Russia is trying to do in Ukraine as 'genocide'. Says 'comments from President of United States who's own country has committed hight profile crimes in recent history' are unacceptable.
  • Says that EU politicians in freedom of speech to follow fate of captured pro-Putin oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk and stop Ukraine from persecuting him for his views.
  • On Ukraine proposal to swap Medvedchuk for captured Ukrainians: says that Medvedchuck is a Ukrainian citizen and foreign politician. Says he had no back-channel to Russia.
