Kremlin-NATO's Stoltenberg Comments 'Provocative & Dangerous'

RUSSIA

Wires carrying comments from Kremlin spox Dmitri Peskov, saying that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's comments about missile strikes on Russia 'not being a red line for Moscow' are 'very provocative and dangerous'. Claims that NATO 'desires not to take Putin's statements about missile strikes on Russia seriously are short-sighted and unprofessional'.

  • This comes after Stoltenberg, who steps down as Sec-Gen at the end of the month, said in an interview with The Times of London that "He (Putin) has already announced 'red lines' many times, and he did not escalate, also meaning the direct involvement of NATO allies in the conflict"
  • Moreover, in an interview with LBC Radio Stoltenberg said on the topic of Ukraine's allies potentially moving towards allowing the firing of long-range missiles at targets in Russia, "I welcome these developments and these decisions but its for individual allies to make the final decisions".
  • Even without the permission to use long-range ballistic missiles against Russia, Ukraine has still found the ability to launch attacks far into the Russian Federation. Indeed, the town of Toropets in the Tver oblast, 380km northwest of Moscow and 470km north of the Ukrainian border, was hit by a 'massive' drone attack on the night of 17 Sep according to the region's governor, sparking evacuations. An ammo storage warehouse may have been the primary target.
