Kremlin Pushes Back On Macron 'No Escalation' Claim

RUSSIA

Russia's RBC reporting that Kremlin spox Dimitry Peskov has pushed back on comments attributed to French President Emmanuel Macron stating that during their meeting yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed there would be 'no escalation' of tensions in Ukraine.

  • Peskov stated that the reports are“...of course, wrote essentially wrong. Moscow and Paris could not conclude any deals, it is simply impossible. Because France is both a member of the EU and a member of NATO, where France does not have leadership, leadership belongs to another country".
  • RBC report also claims that Peskov committed to Russian troops returning to their place of permanent deployment following military exercises with Belarus. The exercises start on 10 February, and there have been concerns in the West that the deployments could prove permanent.
