Labor - Coalition Gap Narrowing, Voters Support Super Changes

In the latest Newspoll reported by The Australian, the primary vote of the governing Labor Party fell 1 point to 37% while the opposition coalition rose a point to 35%, despite broad support for Labor’s superannuation changes. This leaves the two-party preferred measure narrower at 54-46%, the closest since the 2022 election.

  • 54% believe that PM Albanese makes the better prime minister down 2 points from the February poll. Opposition leader Dutton remains well behind but has risen 2 points to 28%. Net satisfaction with the PM has fallen to 17% from its peak of 35% in July. Dutton’s is at -11%.
  • 64% supported the changes to superannuation announced last week but not to be implemented until 2025. The poll was taken on March 5.
