Lagarde: September meeting will see a hike or a pause, but not a cut

  • Q: We would you repeat that you are not even thinking about pausing? Is the risks of doing too little exceed the risk of doing too much?
  • A: I am not repeating things if prompted. We are moving to a stage where we are going to be data dependent. We will take the new staff projections, two new readings and more information about transmission and on the basis of that we will determine whether we hike or pause. I can assure that we are not going to cut. If we pause, it will not necessarily be an extended period of time. We will decide on a meeting-by-meeting basis.
