Large Disparity In Polling Results Raise Eyebrows, Local Data Take Focus

CZECHIA
  • The large disparity between the levels of support for the main opposition party ANO reported by major rival pollsters has caused some confusion, with Kantar putting the party on 39% and Median putting it on 31%. Seznam Zpravy circulated an analysis of the two polls, noting that both surveys showed that ANO is draining support from smaller parties that are currently outside the Chamber of Deputies. According to the report, these voters are "quite erratic" in their political preferences and their willingness to participate in elections. The difference in result may stem from this inherent instability of preferences among members of this group, as well as from the way pollsters handle "uncertain" voters.
  • Czechia's industrial output was flat on a Y/Y basis in January, missing expectations of a 2.0% expansion. Meanwhile, construction output shrank 5.9% Y/Y, with the previous reading revised higher to -3.4%.
  • The CNB will release current account balance for January at 09:00GMT/10:00CET. Bloomberg consensus looks for a CZK13.60bn surplus.
