Le Pen Solidifying Second Place In Latest Polling

FRANCE

Right-wing nationalist Rassemblement National leader Marine Le Pen is solidifying her runner-up position in first round opinion polling ahead of the 10 April presidential election.

  • Ifop-Fiducial poll: Macron (EC-RE): 28%, Le Pen (RN-ID): 20% (+0.5), Mélenchon (LFI-LEFT): 14% (+0.5), Zemmour (REC-NI): 12% (-0.5), Pécresse (LR-EPP): 11% (+0.5). +/- vs. 18-22 March 2022 Fieldwork: 19-23 March 2022 Sample size: 1,507
  • IpsosFrance Poll: Macron 29,5% (=), Le Pen 18,5% (+1), Mélenchon 12,5% (-0,5), Zemmour 11% (=), Pécresse 9,5% (=), Jadot 7% (=), Roussel 4% (=), Hidalgo 2,5% (=). Fieldwork: 21-23 March, chgs w/ 20-22 March, 1,500 respondents.
Barring any significant shifts in support (which cannot be ruled out given the election is still over two weeks away and the political and economic climate remains febrile) it seems likely that the second-round on 24 April will be a repeat of the 2017 election, with Macron defeating Le Pen in a run-off.
