Libya Calls On OPEC To Accelerate Production Increases

OPEC

Libya’s Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh has called on OPEC to accelerate oil production increases.

  • The move is the second such unilateral call to increase oil production from an OPEC member after a retracted call from Abu Dhabi last week.
  • Libya has stated ambitions to revive its oil and gas sector after suffering setbacks due to armed conflicts leading to the closure of many oil and gas fields and export terminals.
  • in 2021 the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced plans to raise oil production capacity to 2.1 million barrels per day (bpd) from 1.3 million bpd.
  • Libya was one of the few OPEC countries which recorded a production increase in the OPEC oil report released this week. The report can be viewed here.
