Libya-Italy Gas Flows Gradually Ramp Up on Thursday

Natural gas flows from Libya’s Mellitah gas plant to Italy’s Gela terminal resumed on Thursday, one day earlier than expected, Eni said.

  • Daily imports from Libya into Italy averaged 6.3mcm so far this month and 9.6mcm in November, Snam data showed.
  • Flows halted on 13 December and were expected to gradually restart on Friday, following an unplanned outage at the Mellitah gas facility.
  • However, the head of Mellitah Oil & Gas, Al-Bashir Ahmed, told Bloomberg that flows to Italy had never halted and were continuing as normal.
  • “There was a problem with the leakage of water vapor, and we discussed all possibilities, including reducing production, but we were not forced to do that,” he added.
