Lisa Cook Fed Nomination Moved To Full Senate Vote

US

The Senate has just voted to move the nomination of President Biden's Federal Reserve nominee Lisa Cook from the Senate Banking Committee to a full Senate vote on her confirmation.

  • The procedural vote, passed 50-49 voted along party lines, came after members of the GOP on the banking committee refused to endorse Cook's nomination on March 16.
  • The committee did, however, approve Biden's re-nomination of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, the promotion of Fed Governor Lael Brainard to Fed vice chair, and Philip Jefferson, to the Fed's board.
  • Biden's fifth Fed nominee Sarah Bloom Raskin withdrew her nomination after the GOP blockaded her nomination and moderate Democrat Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) issued a statement opposing her.
