POWER: Lithuania Plans to Intergrate 12GW Renewables by 2035
POWER
Lithuanian TSO Litgrid is planning on integrating 12GW of onshore renewables by 2035, with goals to also upgrade the domestic network, Litgrid said.
- Works on the network will enhance system resilience, reliability, and flexibility.
- Litgrid will also build projects that expand export markets for electricity and adapt the transmission system for offshore wind, green hydrogen, and synthetic fuels.
- The move comes as power demand is expected to increase sharply from current levels and as the Baltics plan to build an “energy centre.”
- The centre would boost energy independence, renewable production, and export potential – allowing for the Baltic region to be a major renewable energy contributor to Europe’s climate goals, the Lithuania energy ministry said recently, reported by MNI.
The Baltics are set to connect to the EU power grid in early Feb 2025.
