LNG: Brazil LNG Soars to 7-Month High Premium over TTF: Platts

LNG

Brazilian LNG competitiveness continues to grow as spot prices reach multi-month highs versus their NWE counterparts, Platts said.

  • Sources see Brazil seeking more cargoes to replenish domestic demand.
  • The spread between DES Brazil and DES NWE climbed to $1.75/MMBtu, its highest since Feb. 13, based on Platts assessments.
  • Platts analysts expect Brazil’s gas demand to rise, driven by the power sector and limited expectations for hydroelectric capacity.
  • This shift presents an opportunity for LNG, although domestic production or Bolivarian gas could hold a strategic advantage in serving demand growth.
  • Petrobras has already purchased four LNG cargoes for September delivery, with sources expecting more spot volumes for Q4 and Q1-25.
  • Brazil has imported 70k mt in September so far, up from 40k mt on the same period in August, and stable on the same period in Sep. 2023.
