LNG: Egypt Assessing Energy Needs as LNG Imports Reschedule
LNG
Egypt is assessing its energy import needs after a drop in domestic power demand and a need to cut down spending according to its Energy Ministry over the weekend.
- Egypt is “updating production and consumption models according to actual figures” with the aim of “achieving the optimal and most efficient energy mix.”
- The Energy Ministry also said it was reducing “the import bill as much as possible,” while saying the flexibility of contracts allows for “amending the dates of receiving previously-agreed shipments.”
- Egypt shocked the market by releasing large tenders for LNG but now appears to have overshot its needs.
- Authorities are rescheduling deliveries of several LNG cargoes from the current quarter to the next according to a Bloomberg source citing cooler weather and reduced demand.
- Meanwhile, Kpler reported that the Q1 2025 deliveries were being pushed back because of Hoegh Galleon FSRU issues.
