LNG: First Gas Expected From Tortue Project in Next 3-4 Months

First gas from the delayed Greater Tortue Ahmeyim FLNG project is expected over the next three or four months, according to BP CEO Murray Auchincloss cited by LNG Prime.

  • The project in making “good progress” with the floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) unit now arrived offshore Mauritania and Senegal.
  • The project was initially scheduled to come online last year but had been delayed several times, partly due to pipeline construction issues.
  • The Gimi floating LNG production unit for BP's 2.5mtpa Tortue LNG project arrived early this year.
  • Auchincloss said the project is “hooking together all the equipment, and we’ll have to start to flow gas relatively soon.”
  • The project will have eight processing and production modules, processing around 500mmcf/d of gas. The gas supplies will then be transported by pipeline to four liquefaction trains of the FLNG unit.
  • It typically takes about three months to go from first gas to first LNG, project partner Kosmos Energy previously said.
