LNG: Global LNG Demand Fell 15% in the Week to July 21 Lead by Asia: BNEF

Global LNG demand fell 15% on the week in July 15-21 to 6.62m metric tons mainly driven by Asia, according to BNEF.

  • Asia imports fell 0.92m tons with mainland China down 0.43m tons, Japan down 0.27m tons and Thailand and 0.26m tons w/w. South Korea however imported 0.33m tons more on the week.
  • India deliveries fell for a second straight week to the lowest since May, as heat waves eased, and the monsoon season began.
  • European imports fell 0.36m tons with 0.2m tons less from both Italy and Spain.
  • Global LNG supply recovered 3% w/w to 7.49m tons. US output fell 0.2m tons and Australian fell 0.13m tons but was offset by a rise from Russia of 0.2m tons and from Qatar for 0.11m tons.
  • US Corpus Christi supplied 0.2m tons less amid maintenance while Freeport resumed shipments after Hurricane Beryl disruption.
  • Russia’s Sakhalin-2 sent two shipments after a pause for three weeks due to planned works. 
  • Mexico’s New Fortress Energy shipped the first cargo from its Altamira Fast LNG project.
