LNG: Japanese Utilities Raise LNG Stocks 10.6% w/w

LNG stockpiles held by Japanese utilities increased 10.6% w/w to 2.2m tons in the week to July 14 from 1.99m tons the previous week, according to data released by the trade ministry.

  • Storage is 13.4% above levels a year earlier of 1.94m tons but are little changed from the five year average for the end of July.
  • Japanese companies foresee a growing surplus in LNG stocks as their demand for the fuel wanes in coming years and are looking to invest in regional markets to provide potential outlets for the gas, according to Reuters.
