The EU increased LNG imports by around 40 million tonnes, or 10% of the global LNG market, in 2022, while the UK gained 8 million tonnes, or around 2% of global output according to ICIS.

  • Imports into the EU rose to around 96.3m tonnes in 2022, up from 56.3m tonnes the year before.
  • The EU, UK and Turkey together took in a 32% share of the global LNG market in 2022, up from a 20% share the year before.
  • Together imports into Japan, China, South Korea and Taiwan fell to 51% of the market, from 58% the year before.
  • Deliveries to the South Asian countries of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh also fell, with the region's market share dropping to 8% from 10% the year before.
