LNG

The global supply of new LNG could take longer to come on stream than expected by the IEA, with predictions differing by over a year, Equinor said Nov. 26.

  • The IEA expects a wave of LNG to come online in late 2025 or into 2026 as projects reach completion.
  • However, Equinor sees this coming online in 2027, according to Irene Rummelhoff, the head of marketing, midstream and processing at Equinor.
  • Rummelhoff told Reuters that she specified this could be at the end of 2026, base don the company’s market insight as a buyer of US LNG.
  • Total recently pointed to 2027 as the most likely time for the next wave of US LNG to hit the market.
  • The eventual gas supply would see prices ease and in turn would help demand pick up after spikes over recent years caused demand destruction.
  • However, this winter remains tightly balanced, Rummelhoff said.
