LNG: Sanctioned Russian LNG Vessel Crosses Suez for First Time

LNG

A loaded Russian LNG vessel recently sanctioned by the US is crossing the Suez Canal for the first time and likely headed to Asia, Montel said.

  • The Pioneer, with a capacity of 138 mcm, started crossing the canal earlier this morning, Kpler data showed.
  • It was likely heading towards Asia in what would be the first full cargo since the Houthi’s began disrupting Red Sea flows.
  • The vessel is one of nine ships sanctioned by the US, believed to be part of the so-called Russian dark fleet.
  • The Pioneer is carrying the first cargo loaded early in August from Arctic LNG 2.
  • The ship is unlikely to deliver to Egypt or Jordan due to US sanctions.
  • Montel recently reported that Russia may have to shut its Arctic LNG 2 plant soon if sanctions continue to hamper sales.
