LNG: Trump to Usher in “Golden Era” for LNG: Rystad
LNG
Incoming US President Donald Trump is set to usher in a “golden era” for global LNG markers, with Europe a “significant beneficiary”, Rystad said, cited by Montel.
- US exports of LNG should almost double between 2023-2030 to almost 230 bcm should Trump deliver on his campaign promise of fast-tracking LNG permitting, Rystad said in a note.
- LNG is also set to play a significant role in upcoming US-EU trade negotiations. The EU would have to sanction Russian LNG to increase US supplies and improve relations ahead of potential tariffs.
- There is also a risk that rapid expansion in supply could be bearish for the market. Global LNG demand is expected to reach 820 bcm, but a supply gap of 190 bcm could open by 2035.
- However, new US supplies could also unlock new demand in price sensitive markets in Asia, Rystad said.
