LNG Vessel For UK Diverts to Asia

LNG

An LNG vessel originally headed for UK’s Isle of Grain appears to be diverting to Asia, ship-tracking data on Bloomberg show.

  • The Gaslog Sydney, which loaded at Sabine Pass in the US was scheduled to arrive at Grain on Wednesday but is now headed toward the Suez Canal.
  • The diversion means there are no further LNG arrivals scheduled for Britain this month, other than two cargoes that arrived earlier in August.
  • US LNG exporters are increasingly sending cargos to Asia and less to Europe as the arbitrage is open according to Kpler analyst Laura Page.
  • Last week, Asia imported almost the same amount of LNG as western Europe for the first time since early July, with NW European imports at 571,550 mt and Asian imports at 571,450mt.
  • US LNG exports are currently more profitable to Asia in September, October and November. The gas price spread between Asia and Europe is $1.24/MMBtu in September.
