Lobby Group Urges Labour Gov to End Onshore Wind Ban, Raise CfD Budget

POWER

Lobby group RenewablesUK is urging the Labour government to lift the ban on onshore wind in England and to increase the budget for this year’s Contracts for Difference auction to support new renewable projects, it said.

  • The group hopes the new government will do so as part of the first key actions in office.
  • The majority of this year's auction budget of £1.025 billion was focused on offshore wind, which could support 4-6GW of new capacity, assuming strike prices from GBP50/MWh to GBP60/MWh according to S&P.
  • Chancellor Rachel Reeves is set to give the debut speech and press Q&A in the Treasury at 10.30AM BST, in which she is expected to announce to lift the de-facto ban on onshore wind in England according to the BBC.
