Macron Speaks On Iran Nuclear Deal, UK Relations

Speaking on a visit to Algeria, French President Emmanuel Macron states that 'the ball is in Iran's court' in relation to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA, the Iran nuclear deal).

  • The EU's final draft on a revived deal is currently being deliberated by the involved parties and the US. The US' response to the draft is being reviewed in Tehran. E3 nations (France, Germany, UK) and EU seen as keen to reach deal ASAP.
  • Macron also responds to UK Conservative Party leadership contest frontrunner Liz Truss' comments on Anglo-French relations (see: https://marketnews.com/france-pm-frontrunner-jury-...) :"Regardless of UK leadership, I don't doubt for one second that the UK is a friend of France. We live in a complicated world...if we are not able between France and the UK to say if we are friends or enemies - the terms aren't neutral - we're headed toward serious problems"
  • Macron: "For sure, the British people, the UK nation is a friendly, strong and allied nation, regardless of who its leaders are. And sometimes in spite of its leaders or small errors they can make in podium comments"
