Makhlouf Strikes Similar Tone, Sees Scope for Easier Policy Stance

ECB
  • ECB's Makhlouf states that they see scope for a change in monetary policy stance, and their current view is that the picture should be "sufficiently clearer in June" to give sufficient confidence to make monetary policy less restrictive.
  • Markets had heard from Makhlouf relatively recently, who appeared in the Irish Independent at the weekend to say rate cuts will be "small and gradual" and had said the "situation should be come a lot clearer in the middle of the year" - which seems to be infitting with the mention of June above.
