Malaysia Appoints Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour As New Central Bank Governor

Bank Negara Malaysia said in a press release that Datuk Shaik Abdul Rasheed bin Abdul Ghaffour has been appointed for a five-year term as its new Governor.

  • Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour will take office at the beginning of next month and serve at least until the end of June 2028.
  • Outgoing Governor Shamsiah said that she is "confident that Rasheed is the right person to helm the Bank as Governor, having worked closely with him for many years."
  • Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour is a BNM veteran; he joined the central bank in 1988 and was promoted to the position of Deputy Governor in 2016.
