Malaysia's Ismail Sabri Refuses To Take Stance On 3DMPs Proposal

Caretaker Prime Minister Ismail Sabri deflected questions on the UMNO-led Barisan Nasional's proposal to appoint three Deputy Prime Ministers in the wake of the next general election.

  • The proposal was formulated by UMNO leader Zahid, who called for the creation of three posts of Deputy Prime Minister to represent Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
  • UMNO Secretary General echoed that call, noting that a Cabinet structure with three Deputy Prime Ministers would be better than the current arrangement with four Senior Ministers.
  • Ismail Sabri said that the party should focus on winning the election first and then discuss the appointment of senior Cabinet members.
