Manufacturing Outlooks Improve, Business Climate Weakens

  • French manufacturing confidence edged upwards by two points to 108 in June, with foregin book orders and general production outlooks continuing to drag albeit less than in May.
  • This was a three-point beat on expectations and remains above the long-term average of 100. Industrial roduction expectations rebounded, reaching a historical high in "other transport equipment". Supply constraints and economic uncertainty saw some easing, and expected selling prices saw some relief, both indicators remained high.
  • The overall French business climate indicator weakened in June, softening by two points, on the back of worsening outlooks in both services and retail industries.
