March Economic Activity, Central Bank Event

  • The central bank holds high-level seminar on Central Banking in Sao Paulo, starting at 2pm local time. Among the speakers at the event are ECB President Christine Lagarde and BIS General Manager Agustin Carstens, as well as Brazil Central Bank Chief Roberto Campos Neto and Finance Minister Fernando Haddad.
  • Brazilian activity growth likely slowed in March following an unexpectedly strong performance in February. Earlier data showed a 1.1% monthly jump in industrial output, a 0.9% expansion in services activity and an outsize 3.6% gain in broad retail sales. The employment level rose 0.2% in the month while the quantity imported contracted by 0.4%. The data is scheduled for 1300BST/0800ET:
