May Economic Activity, Retail Sales, Citi Survey of Economists Expected Today

  • On the data front, economic activity is expected to rise by 0.55% m/m in May, following a 0.62% decline in April (1300BST/0800ET). In annual terms, analysts expect economic growth to slow to 1.4% y/y, from 5.4%. Also released at 1300BST, retail sales are expected to rise by 0.9% m/m and 2.3% y/y in May. Later today, the Citi survey of economists will also be published.

  • Meanwhile, President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum will hold a press conference at 1800BST(1300ET), according to a text message sent by her office. Yesterday, Sheinbaum defended her incoming economy minister Marcelo Ebrard after comments against him from former President Trump in a speech over the weekend. Sheinbaum said that Ebrard is one of the best public servants in Mexico and will be a great Secretary of Economy for the country.
