Wires and social media reporting comments from German Chancellor Angela Merkel stating that the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany has passed.

  • The data might suggest that Merkel's comments are somewhat premature, with the total number of fatalities recorded in the last seven days coming in at 1,659, well above the three-digit weekly fatality counts being recorded at the start of April.
