MEXICO: Sheinbaum Commits to Not Increasing Gasoline Prices
MEXICO
- Thursday saw a plethora of comments from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum during her regular scheduled daily press conference. She highlighted that the Finance Ministry is working on a deal to prevent the price of the basic food basket from increasing, and also noted her administration will also commit to not increasing gasoline and diesel prices.
- The comments came following mid-month inflation data in October, which rose moderately above surveyed expectations, both for headline and core readings.
- Sheinbaum also said the energy reform approved by the Senate last week reached the majority in Mexico’s state legislatures, the final step before she can sign it into law
- The president also made it clear the Government has a clear strategy to reduce the country’s deficit in 2025, and highlighted that in 2026 and 2027 the impact on the budget related to investment in public works will be higher than the impact during next year.
