OIL: Mexico's Pemex Looks Towards Other Buyers Following Tariffs
OIL
Mexico’s Pemex is in crude supply talks with buyers in Asia, China and Europe as it looks to diversify its options following the recent tariffs with the U.S. a senior Mexican official said to Reuters on Thursday.
- Two sources at PMI Comercio Internacional, Pemex's trading arm, confirmed to Reuters that China, India, South Korea and even Japan would be suitable markets for what Pemex produces in the face of tariffs but would come with higher shipping costs.
- The official added that Mexico is not offering discounts to try and maintain U.S. buyers.
- Canada is in a trickier situation with a lack of export options because of its pipeline infrastructure to Midwest refiners. They are expected to be forced to offer discounts.
