Rep Mary Peltola (D-AL) and Republican challenger Sarah Palin will face off tonight in a debate for the Alaska at-large House seat.

  • Peltola's surprise special election victory in a state former President Donald Trump carried by 10 percentage points has led some analysts to infer a signal that independent voters may be willing to vote Democrat in races featuring candidates aligned with Trump from the right wing of the Republican Party.
  • Politico: "But Alaska is not the only state where the politics of personality are being tested in the GOP, and it’s possible that the difficulties Republicans are having here are less an outlier than an early indication of a specific problem for the party in states where Republicans have nominated candidates as polarizing as Palin — and where independents are keeping Democrats afloat."
