MIDTERMS: Crucial Pennsylvania Senate Debate Today

US

Democrat Lt Gov John Fetterman (D-PA) and Republican celerity surgeon Mehmet Oz will face off in their only debate of the midterm cycle this evening at 20:00 ET 01:00 BST.

  • Fetterman's campaign attempted damage control yesterday, issuing a memo to reporters saying: “We’ll admit — this isn’t John’s format [...] Oz clearly comes into Tuesday night with a huge built-in advantage.”
  • Fetterman is currently experiencing auditory processing problems as a result of a stroke he suffered in May. Oz has used Fetterman's health problems to question his suitability for office.
  • With the race tightening in recent weeks, Democrat HQ is planning to dispatch President Biden and former President Brrack Obama to attend campaign events in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh on November 5.
  • Fetterman had a commanding lead over Oz during the summer but most pollsters now consider the race a "tossup." If Fetterman can win the race it would necessitate the GOP flip two Democrat seats (Nevada, Georgia, New Hampshire, Washington, Arizona, Colorado) and significantly ease Democrat chances of retaining the Senate.
