MIDTERMS: Democrats Outside Chance Of Retaining Control Of House

US

Democrats have keep their slim chances of retaining control of the House alive with strong results projected in Ohio.

  • Incumbent Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) is projected to retain her seat in Ohio's 9th district. Kaptur is the incumbent but her district shifted from a partisan lean of D+16 to R+6 after redistricting - Kaptur has outperformed expectations.
  • Democrat Greg Landsman (D-OH) has flipped the seat of Rep Steve Chabot (R-OH). A significant result for Landsman in a race that was considered a likely comfortable hold for Chabot.
  • Henry Gomez at NBC: "The night wasn't quite so dreadful for Ohio Democrats: They swept all three of the competitive congressional districts — Kaptur survived, Landsman unseated Chabot and Sykes wins open seat."
  • Kaleigh Rogers at 538: "ABC News projects that Democrat Emilia Sykes will win OH-13 over Republican Madison Gesiotto Gilbert. Sykes had a 18.6 percent chance of winning in FiveThirtyEight’s final Deluxe pre-election forecast. And in Ohio’s 1st District, Democrat Greg Landsman is projected to win over incumbent Republican Rep. Steve Chabot. Landsman had a 16.1 percent chance of winning in the final Deluxe preelection forecast."
