ARGENTINA: Milei Will Send Decree To Congress For IMF Deal Approval, Feb IP Due

  • President Milei will send an executive decree to congress for the approval of a new deal with the IMF, the president’s office announced in a press release yesterday. The IMF funds will be used to cancel existing central bank debt, according to the statement. Yesterday, IMF spokeswoman Julie Kozack said that negotiations over the deal were continuing in a constructive manner, while Economy Minister Caputo also said that the new IMF programme would happen before the end of April, adding that nothing will happen to the FX rate.
  • In other news, the government has approved a 1.7% increase in electricity prices, according to two resolutions of the electricity regulator ENRE published in official gazette today.
  • On the data front today, January industrial production and construction activity figures will be published at 1900GMT(1400ET). Vehicle sales figures for February will also cross later.
