  • While it was announced earlier this week that Eskom chair Mpho Makwana would step down at the end of October, it seems that Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan lost confidence in him relatively early on. News24 reports that Gordhan ordered an investigation into Makwana over a contract with a service provider to find some wrongdoing.
  • News24 circulated a report noting that South Africa is facing a looming fuel crisis as just three of its six refineries are operational, which significantly constraints refining capacity and increases the country's relliance on imports of refined fuel products.
  • SARB Governor Lesetja Kganyago said that the central bank still has more work to do on inflation-fighting, with higher food and oil prices as well as rand weakness posing upside risks to the inflation outlook.
  • South Africa will report August mining data at 10:30BST/11:30SAST and manufacturing data at 12:00BST/13:00SAST.
