Mixed Reports On Lavrov's Health, MoFA Says Hospitalisation Is Fake News

RUSSIA

Some mixed reporting coming out regarding the health of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

  • AP is citing two sources saying that Lavrov has been taken to hospital to be treated for a heart conditions after arriving in Bali, Indonesia.
  • Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spox Maria Zakharova calls it fake news, stating that, "Sergei [Lavrov] and I are reading the tape in Indonesia and can't believe our eyes: it turns out he is hospitalized. This, of course, is the top flight of fakes. Well, wait, a world exclusive.”
  • Unusual for outlet such as AP to be wrong on this sort of story, but such a rapid pushback from the Russian gov't could indicate some issues with veracity.
