--Nov Core Machine Orders Post 1st M/M Drop In 2 Months
TOKYO (MNI) - Japan's core machinery orders, excluding those for power
generation equipment and ships, slid in November for the first time in 2 months,
reflecting slowing demand.
The following are the key points from the data released by the Cabinet
Office:
-- Core orders fell an unrounded 0.02% in November and compare to a gain of
7.6% in October. The MNI survey median of 13 economist forecasts projected a
3.3% increase.
-- October-December core orders, however, are expected to post a 6th
consecutive quarterly gain, with expectations of a rise of 3.6% after 0.9% in
the July-September period, the Cabinet Office said.
-- The three-month moving average for core orders was -4.5% for the period
ending November 30, coming after a -2.0% fall for July-September period.
-- The office kept its assessment of industry -- "pickup of orders is
marking time". Previously, they said orders were "showing sign of picking up".
-- Orders from the manufacturing sector decreased sharply to 6.4% in
November from a 12.3% gain in October, underlying weakening demand in the
sector. Orders from the non-manufacturing sector, excluding power generation and
ships, rose 2.5%, narrowing from October's 4.5% gain.
