MNI: Australia Construction Expands for 13 Straight Months

By Sophia Rodrigues
SYDNEY (MNI) - Australia's construction industry expanded for the
thirteenth straight month, led by a strong rise in new orders in the
house-building sector and continued growth in other sub-sectors.
Data published by the Australian Industry Group/Housing Industry
Association Wednesday showed the performance of construction index rose by 1.7
points to 56.0 mainly due to rise in supplier deliveries, employment and new
orders.
New orders rose strongly for house-building, up 9.6 to 60.9 points,
indicating housing construction is likely to remain relatively firm in 2018
supported by record low interest rates, strong population growth and stronger
jobs growth.

Index (Australian PCI) for February published Wednesday.
