MNI BOJ Kuroda: To Mange Policy Timely without Preconception

MNI (London)
TOKYO (MNI) - Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said Thursday that the
BOJ will manage monetary policy in an appropriate manner without any
preconceptions, while carefully examining various risks.
The BOJ "needs to more pay attention to the risk that the momentum for the
price stability target will be lost as the slowdown in overseas economies
continues and downside risks to the global economy is increasing," he added.
BOJ Kuroda, speaking at a meeting sponsored by the Securities Dealers
Association of Japan, noted that the BOJ must carefully examine developments in
overseas economies and their impact on Japan's economy and prices.
However, he didn't elaborate on how to deal with the heightened risks and
what kinds of measures the BOJ would take at the upcoming policy-setting
meeting, scheduled for Oct. 30-31.
Kuroda also said, "It is vital for the BOJ to patiently maintain the
powerful easy policy to achieve the price stability target."
The BOJ policymakers will re-examine economic and price developments when
they meet in October.
