MNI BRIEF: Banks Likely Distributors Of Digital Euro - De Cos

(MNI) LONDON
(MNI) Rome

The Eurosystem expects that the Digital euro would be distributed by “payment services providers” as they are better positioned than central banks to deal with clients relations and the payment infrastructure, Bank of Spain Governor Pablo Hernandez de Cos said in a speech on Monday.

“It would be about replicating as far as possible the distribution of tasks that exists in the payment market today,” he said, adding that clients should be able to consult and operate with the digital euro through their online banking.
