MNI BRIEF: BOC Deputy Governor Larry Schembri Retiring In June

OTTAWA (MNI)

Bank of Canada Deputy Governor Larry Schembri will retire on June 17, the central bank said Friday, after having served there since 1997 and joining the rate-setting panel in 2013.

The move will return Governing Council to its regular roster of six people, the Bank said in a statement. Schembri's roles in tracking the domestic economy will be taken over by Sharon Kozicki following the April Monetary Policy Report, and by Senior Deputy Governor Carolyn Rogers for helping monitor the financial system. "His contributions to central banking, here in Canada and internationally, have been innumerable," Governor Tiff Macklem said.
