Bank of Japan deputy governor nominee Schinichi Uchida said the BOJ needs to maintain easy policy to firmly support the economy amid uncertainties over the outlook for the economy and prices at home and overseas.

Uchida told lawmakers that he would like to consider possible measures to maintain easy policy. He said Japan’s inflation rate was driven by the rise in import prices, but the year-on-year rise in the inflation rate will fall below 2% towards the middle of next fiscal year.

Uchida is the BOJ executive director in charge of monetary policy and he was engaged in formulating easy policy, including yield curve control and the negative short-term interest rate.
