Bank of Japan deputy governor nominee Shinichi Uchida said now isn’t time for the BOJ to raise interest rates.

“(The BOJ) needs to explain that (the BOJ) doesn’t see that now is a time to raise interest rates,” Uchida told lawmakers.

He said the BOJ increased the flexibility of yield curve control in December and the bank needs to keep easy policy based at the centre of YCC.

Uchida also said monetary policy had both positive and negative effects and “there is no free lunch.”
