MNI BRIEF: BOJ, FSA Guard Over Financial System Risk

TOKYO (MNI)

The Bank of Japan and the Financial Services Agency are going to increase cooperation to further ensure any prolonged periods of low banking sector profitability don't destabilize the nation's financial system. On Monday, the central bank released measures to strengthen ties between the two agencies, such as sharing financial information and periodical meetings between high-level officials to strengthen their monitoring.

The BOJ and the FSA set up a task force in November as the prolonged impact of the coronavirus and increased banks' risk-taking activity has changed the the financial system's wider environment.
