MNI (Sydney)
TOKYO (MNI)

The Bank of Japan on Wednesday lowered the scale of its purchases of short and medium-term government bonds as the bank lowered the range of bond buying in February from January.

The amount of JGB buying with a remaining life of 1 to 3 years was reduced to JPY400 billion from JPY450 billion at the previous similar operation on Jan. 27, while the scale of JGB buying with a remaining life of 3 to 5 years was lowered to JPY370 billion from JPY420 billion at the previous similar operation on Jan. 29.

JGBs were little influenced by the reduction, which was widely expected by market players.
