MNI BRIEF: BOJ Real Export Index in Q1 Falls 2.5% Q/Q

(MNI) TOKYO

The Bank of Japan's real export index, calculated using Ministry of Finance trade data, fell 2.5% q/q in Q1, its first drop in 12 months following Q4's 0.1% gain, data released by the BOJ showed on Wednesday.

The figures were calculated by MNI based on BOJ data and confirmed by bank officials. The BOJ will release details of the index on Monday.

The real export index rose 3.4% m/m in March, for the first rise in three months following revised -2.7% in February.
